Dougie Robbins

Dougie Robbins (AEA, SDC) loves dance. This has led to him dancing, acting, choreographing and directing musicals and plays. Some favorite credits as a performer include Showboat (Dance Captain, IRNE award best ensemble Boston), A Chorus Line (Greg, original choreo), Chicago (Dance Captain), Crazy For you (Dance Captain) and many more. His favorite directing and choreographic credits for musicals include Peter Pan (Wilde Award nominee), Addams Family (Wilde Award Nominee), Mary Poppins, Joseph…Dreamcoat, and Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
He received his undergraduate degree in Musical Theatre from SUNY Cortland, where he also taught as a faculty member for two years and his graduate degree in Directing from the Actor’s Studio at Pace University, which led him to directing original plays off and off-off broadway. He has also taught as a guest lecturer in the Syracuse University BFA Musical Theater and Acting programs. He operates a small non-profit jazz dance company DPRdance which features community programs and has staged original works at the LPAC, Dixon Place, Tada! Off-Broadway, at Nazareth University and in Minneapolis. He assisted Chet Walker on reviving and preserving the Jack Cole technique and repertoire as well as on Broadway for the anniversary production of They’re Playing Our Song at the Music Box Theater.
He has taught, directed and choreographed in Taiwan as well, and has a passion for education. Students can expect Dougie’s class to focus on musicality and complex rhythms with choreography supported by the foundational techniques of plie, core work and port-de-bras. Dougie also pulls from vaudeville, ballet and popular dance in his combinations, striving to create a fun and supportive class environment that challenges students and gives them a thorough workout.
