Eliza Ohman

Eliza Ohman is a NYC based artist with over a decade of professional experience as a performer, choreographer, and educator. She joined Hamilton in 2016 as the first ever female Universal Swing and later Dance Captain, assisted in setting the 1st and 2nd National Tours, and opened the International Company of Hamilton in Manila, Abu Dhabi, and Singapore. Working closely with Hamilton’s creative team has been one of the greatest privileges of her career and led to many other collaborations including Fosse/Verdon (FX), Up Here (Hulu), The Met Gala: In America, and more. She was part of the Chita Rivera Award winning Ensemble of Drew McOnie’s King Kong: Alive on Broadway (OBC) and was also the Asst. Dance Captain. A few other career highlights include: The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon), Danny and the Deep Blue Sea (Danny), and Camden Loeser’s The NEW Jack Cole Dancers.
In addition to performing, Eliza is Carrie-Anne Ingrouille’s US Associate Choreographer for SIX: The Musical, on faculty at NYC’s Steps on Broadway, and works with the Verdon Fosse Legacy to ensure their work is kept alive and passed down with the authenticity, context, and nuance with which it was originally created. She is an enthusiastic educator and loves watching artists find a greater sense of self through their movement. As a Level Two Certified practitioner of Andrew Byrne’s The Singing Athlete, she incorporates functional applied neuroscience to increase strength, stability, clarity, range of motion, and artistry. Understanding the power of the body’s diaphragms and how targeted, individualized drills can transform an artist’s work has revolutionized her teaching. But more than anything, Eliza is an obsessively passionate fan of the Denver Nuggets and the Denver Broncos. Her love (and stress) for them knows no bounds. IG: @elizaohman
Class Description:
Eliza’s theater class explores how musicality can propel a narrative! Class begins with a full warm-up in center that moves through dynamic jazz/ballet based exercises designed to activate and connect dancers to their breath, core, and spine, allowing the body to warm up from the inside out.
Class combos celebrate the titans of Jazz dance while incorporating a contemporary perspective. Each combo strives to challenge the dancers to let the intention drive the material while actively developing and honing musicality, style, technique, and presence. Music is eclectic and ranges from jazz standards to funk to rock to contemporary pop.
