Espen Giljane

Espen Giljane was born in Oslo, Norway and received his early training with Eva Haalke, a student of Vera Volkova.
At the age of 16 he received a scholarship to The School of American Ballet.
At the invitation of George Balanchine he joined The New York City Ballet and danced there until 1995. He has been a guest teacher for NYCB since 1994.
He was the Artistic Director of Norwegian National Ballet from 2002-2012.
He has been on faculty at The Juilliard School since 2015, and is also currently teaching at Steps on Broadway and company class at American Ballet Theatre. He has taught Norwegian National Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Finnish National Ballet, Houston Ballet, Teatro Colon, Cullberg, Carte Blanche, School of American Ballet, ABT Studio Company and several other schools and companies around the world.
He received Anders Jahre’s Award in 2009 and The Order of St. Olav by King Harald of Norway in 2012.
