Mr. Andrew Black has performed from the stage of Carnegie Hall to the streets of Tokyo’s DisneySea. Favorite Credits include: Irving Berlin’s White Christmas (Asst. Choreographer, Asst. Director, Dance Captain and Swing), The First National Tour of 42nd Street (Bert Barry/ Pat Denning us), Thoroughly Modern Millie, (Dance Captain and Graydon us @ Gateway Playhouse), 42nd Street for Mr. Randy Skinner (Dance Captain and Swing) at the Westchester Broadway Dinner Theater, Tap Dogs, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat, Sugar, Singing in the Rain, Anything Goes, The Nationally Televised Tribute to Dudley Moore, Moon Over Buffalo, Lend Me a Tenor, Love, Sex and the IRS, “Freshly Tossed” @ NYMF for Ray Hesselink, Crazy Love (Barney and Asst. Choreographer) for the Off Square Theater in Jackson Hole, WY.
His choreographic credits include: the Off – Broadway debut of Over Here! at the Triad Theater in NYC, Three Professional Performance Workshops for Steps, Tap Choreography for the Foodance Restaurant on the nationally televised Columbus Day Parade, tap choreography in The Lost Princess of Oz, for the Axelrod Theater of NJ, “Lady Be Good” performed by the BathTub Ginnys on The Intrepid Battleship, NYC, “Sing Happy” starring Haley Swindal at 54Below, the music video for “I Don’t Want Anything for Christmas, But You” by The Gregory Brothers, and is a multiple Award-Winning Competition Choreographer for Avante Performing Arts in Ohio. He proudly has choreographed over forty different shows for schools and theaters in the tri-state area.
Andrew teaches globally, from lecturing on Tap Dance History to Masterclasses and Workshops for schools, theaters and festivals. Notable examples include: Israel, Australia, England (Pineapple Studios) and South Africa and was a founding member of the Turino Tap Festival, Turin, Italy. Recent credits include: Precision Tap Dance Workshop for Exactitude Dance, NYC, Substitute Tap Dance Teacher at NYU, “For Dancer’s Only” in Totowa, NJ, Tap Dance workshop leader for the NJ Thespians’ Society, Founding teacher for “Common Ground” NYC, Adjunct and Substitute Dance Instructor (Ballet, Tap & Jazz) Marymount of Manhattan College, NYC and the prestigious Joffery Ballet School’s Tap Summer intensive, including lecturing on Tap History.
His Tap and Theater Dance classes are technique driven featuring an in-depth warm-up, as well as across-the-floor patterns that focus on the fundamentals of balance, strength, flexibility and rhythmic clarity concluding with combinations pulled from a diverse range of styles from 1920’s Charleston, MGM style Fred & Ginger numbers, to 1940’s Swing to Elvis and even some modern music thrown in just to keep everyone on their toes.
